Reconstruction of Gojka Radonjića Street completed; Vuković: We will revival Old Town and return its authentic look
16/11/2020The Mayor of Podgorica, Ivan Vuković, PhD, with his associates, visited the reconstructed Gojka Radonjića Street in Stara Varoš (Old Town) today, emphasizing that the Capital has successfully continued the implementation of the project aimed at restoring the authentic appearance of Stara Varoš and making it live like other parts of this type of the city in Montenegro and beyond.
"Today, the works on the thorough reconstruction of Gojka Radonjića Street are being completed, which includes paving it with cobblestones, in an authentic spirit, as is appropriate for Stara Varoš, and it is a continuation of the project we started with a year and a half ago", Vuković emphasized and reminded of the recent reconstruction of Braće Zlatičanin Street and the birth house of Risto Stijović, but also announced the completion of works in Predgrad and Keša Đurovića Streets by the end of the year.
"In that way, Stara Varoš got about 600 meters of cobbled streets. We will continue in the same way, followed by the announcement of tenders for two more streets - Spasa Nikolića and Sava Lubarde in the length of 300 meters, whose reconstruction should also begin soon", Vuković said, adding that two more streets in Stara Varoš are planned for next year - Radoja Jovanovića and Špira Mugoše Streets. The mayor pointed out that Stara Varoš is a priority of the city administration and must be a priority of every city administration, because there is no Podgorica without Stara Varoš, which is a true symbol and sign of recognition of Podgorica.
"Along with investments in infrastructure, we recently supported entrepreneurs who intend to start their business in Stara Varoš with EUR 50,000 because we know that this in itself does not guarantee that Stara Varoš will live the way we would like, so we got quality business plans and I expect that in the coming period in this area will come to life some new galleries, cafés, pastry shops and everything that is characteristic of urban units of this type", the mayor said.
He said that the crown of the city administration's efforts, if the financial situation allows, also refers to the project of building a new pedestrian bridge that would connect Stara Varoš with the plateau between the Sports Center "Morača" and the Hotel "Podgorica".
Vuković emphasized that he is very satisfied that Stara Varoš is slowly but surely becoming what we all want and thanked the Agency for Construction and Development of Podgorica, the contractor, but especially the citizens living in Gojka Radonjića Street for their understanding and patience, because they were unable to function normally in the previous four months as long as the reconstruction of this street took.
The director of the Agency for Construction and Development, Srdjan Raičević, pointed out that the value of this investment is EUR120,000 and that he will continue to invest in Stara Varoš in the following period. Stanko Radonjića Street received complete infrastructure - fecal, atmospheric sewage and water supply. There were many challenges during the reconstruction because the street is extremely narrow and complex, so we could not enter with large machines, and we had to do many things by hand, and that slowed us down a lot", Raičević said, adding that they continue with projects in Stara Varoš.
Milenko Lainović, a resident of Old Podgorica and the first doctor of dentistry in Podgorica, said that he was very pleased that Podgorica was finally getting outlines similar to European cities. Lainović also reminded of some anecdotes from Stara Podgorica that testify to the cheerful spirit for which Cikotići are known.
