Centralized traffic light management on Sveti Petar Cetinjski Boulevard: "Green wave" for faster and safer traffic on the main city road
13/12/2020Thanks to the construction of modern telecommunications infrastructure of Communal services Ltd. in the previous period, they worked on connecting the traffic lights - traffic lights on Sveti Petar Cetinjski Boulevard with the control center, and for this purpose, the necessary equipment in the amount of EUR 38,689.75 was previously procured.
In that way, the centralized management of traffic light devices is enabled, which takes place in real time and includes eight intersections along the entire Sveti Petar Cetinjski Boulevard. Based on the existing signal plans, line coordination of traffic light devices was released, whereby both directions - the direction from the direction of Blok 5, i.e. the direction from the direction of the Stari Aerodrom were treated almost equally as a priority.
The current settings have been established in communication with the relevant Secretariat for Traffic, and having in mind the configuration of intersections, the "Green wave" is active in the period from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. from the direction of Blok 5 towards the Stari Aerodrom, and from 1 p.m. to 6 a.m. from the direction of Stari Aerodrom to Blok 5. In these periods, for the sake of even more efficient traffic, the green signal duration cycle will be changed, which will last 74, 90 or 110 seconds, depending on the period of the day. In this way, according to the measurements, at a speed of about 40 km/h, driving on the treated section (Blok 5 – Stari Aerodrom) will take less than 3 minutes, which is significantly shorter than in the previous mode of traffic lights without control.
Also, due to faster and safer traffic on the main city road, there will be a reduction in the emission of harmful exhaust gases from motor vehicles, which will of course have a positive impact on both human health and the ecosystem.
Please note that the traffic on this road will be monitored continuously, and there is a possibility that if the need arises, the above settings will be changed, all with the aim of even more efficient traffic, i.e., adjustment to real needs.
Communal services Ltd. will continue to work on the modernization of traffic lights, and will soon start replacing old traffic light poles, which were damaged in traffic accidents or weather conditions, with new portal or semi-portal carriers of more modern design and better quality, which will be equipped with signal counting devices at traffic lights.
