PODGORICA ON TWO WHEELS

In order to promote the protection of the environment and the affirmation of alternative modes of transport, the project "Podgorica on two wheels" has started. The project started in January 2019, and funds in the amount of € 10,000 were allocated for its implementation, which subsidized the purchase of bicycles in the amount of 50 percent, and a maximum of € 100. The funds were enough to provide bicycles for about a hundred citizens. The interest of fellow citizens exceeded the expectations of the City Administration, and during the first cycle, they allocated funds for 136 of them who applied for subsidies.

This project is only a part of what the Capital City has been doing for years in terms of improving the quality of life, with the aim of motivating people to turn to healthy lifestyles. Podgorica currently has four bicycle corridors, and a fifth is being planned, which would stretch from Gorica to Zabjelo. During the second cycle, funds were distributed for the purchase of 103 bicycles, for which another € 10,000 were set aside. In 2020, the third cycle for subsidies was realized, during which it is planned to distribute funds for the purchase of 100 bicycles and 50 electric scooters. About 587 fellow citizens applied, and the Capital City awarded subsidies to all those who submitted complete documentation. Thanks to that, over 100 fellow citizens actualized the right to buy electric scooters under favorable conditions, and the same case is with over 400 fellow citizens who will buy new bicycles.

"Podgorica on two wheels" was launched as a pilot project, but when it got welcomed by the citizens with enthusiasm and satisfaction, we decided that it was necessary to continue it, so that as many of our fellow citizens get a chance to buy a bike on favorable terms and with support of the Capital.
