Ceremonial session held on the occasion of the day of liberation of Podgorica; Vuković: We will continue to heritage and protect the values of freedom and anti-fascism as an inseparable part of the identity of our Podgorica
19/12/2020On the occasion of December 19 - the Day of the Liberation of Podgorica, a solemn session of the Assembly of the Capital of Podgorica was held today in the Music Center of Montenegro. Due to the epidemiological situation, the session was held in compliance with all measures prescribed by the competent institutions.
Congratulating the Day of the Capital and the 76th anniversary of liberation from fascism, the President of the Assembly of the Capital, Dr. Đorđe Suhih, pointed out that this day should be remembered primarily on December 19, 1944, when in those cold days the fighters of the People's Liberation Army stormed more and stronger opponents fought for the liberation of our city. "They were then driven by the desire for freedom and the idea of building a better and more humane society where we will all be the same. Many also gave their lives in that struggle. We must not forget this even though many years have passed. But other times are coming, no more partisan songs are being sung, no films are being watched about the heroism of the participants about the National Libertation War. We are aware that time is passing, we are aware that unfortunately there are no longer many participants of the National Liberation War among the living", Suhih said. "We accept that some events are the result of the time in which they take place. We accept that changes are inevitable and that new generations must continue to create Podgorica together as the best combination of a multiethnic, multiconfessional, multicultural environment, an environment of good neighborly relations and cooperation. But we can by no means accept that someone supported by us from other centers is changing our past and affecting our present and future. "Podgorica has always been and will be recognized as a place open to all people with a pure heart, but also with nurturing and respect for anti-fascism, a tradition that has included Montenegro in the ranks of victorious forces over the greatest evil in human history", Suhih concluded.
Mayor Ivan Vuković, PhD, reminded of the values of freedom and anti-fascism, which inspired our proud ancestors to rise up against the occupiers on July 13, 1941, but also on the day of the liberation of Podgorica three years later.
The Mayor emphasized that these are the values that form the foundation of modern, European Montenegro and its multiethnic, civil society, the values witnessed by the character and work of one of this year's winners of the award "19. december ”, of our Hussein-Ceno Tuzović, as well as the values for which our history is glorious, the values without which our future is uncertain.
"Because of those who were before us, because of those who will come after us, and because of ourselves, we will continue to inherit and, from intolerance and chauvinism, from hatred and primitivism, protect the values of freedom and anti-fascism as an inseparable part of our Podgorica identity", Vuković pointed out.
Vuković pointed out that 2020 was full of challenges, but that it was the best year for the Capital in the last decade.
"In short, the realization of the project of the century - the system for collecting and purifying wastewater - has begun. We got a new boulevard and the construction of three more started. We have solved the issue of water supply for several thousand of our fellow citizens. We have created preconditions for the realization of a number of projects that citizens have been waiting for for decades, such as the reconstruction of the Small Sports Stadium, modernization of the old road to Danilovgrad, construction of Baku Street, construction of the Emergency Block and primary school in Tološi. We built 4 new parks, started building two more. We built one children's playground and one sports ground per month", Vuković pointed out and added that preconditions were created for the reconstruction of the main city square and modernization of public transport, new business zone in Podgorica, as well as the establishment of a local public broadcaster.
"As long as people like you are, the sun of our city will shine forever, and Montenegro will be eternal", Vuković concluded and thanked his colleagues for their dedicated work and numerous successes in the previous year.
Award “19. December ” was presented to Husein Ceno-Tuzović, and members of the Ubović and Divanović families received awards for the posthumous winners of the highest recognition of the Capital, Novka Ubović and Paša Divanović.
As a winner, Tuzović congratulated to all citizens the Day of the Capital and the 76th anniversary of the liberation of Podgorica, expressing gratitude that on the way to the year 83 he was awarded this great recognition from his city where he was born, educated, to which he was always attached. and for which he constantly fought with dignity.
