Vuković with representatives of Animal protection NGO; By forming a working group to jointly work on improvement of our relationship with pets

Mayor Ivan Vuković, Ph.D. and his associates met with representatives of the NGO Spas, NGO Ruka-šapi, NGO Happy paws, where they discussed the modalities of improving the work of asylum, and thus the care and treatment of abandoned pets.

On that occasion, Mayor Vukovic pointed out that through joint cooperation between the Capital and NGOs, they can achieve a lot in terms of dealing with abandoned and ditched pets, as well as prevent poisoning by unscrupulous individuals. For that cause, the mayor called on the representatives of NGOs to form a working group with the representatives of the Capital to implement joint initiatives in this area in the coming period.

The Mayor also reminded of two important projects for next year, namely the construction of a park and a cemetery for pets.

"The attitude towards pets largely reflects the state of the whole society, and as long as we do not have a responsible attitude, the problem is in us as a community. The city company "Čistoća" takes care of abandoned and ditched dogs in the shelter, but you, as volunteers, also make a huge contribution. We recently sent an initiative to MORT for the construction of a cemetery for pets, we are waiting their response. It is a project that is planned for next year and we also planned to build a park for pets, as the ones that exist in the region. This is something that the city company "Zelenilo" could build in the next year, we have already determined one plot within the park that is being built in 27. marta Street in Zabjelo. Several more locations are planned for the construction of a pet park. By forming a working group and acting together, we could achieve a lot in terms of improving the treatment of abandoned dogs, as well as prevent future misconduct. Within that working group, we would deal with all these things in more detail", Mayor said.

Milica Đikanović on behalf of NGO Spas pointed out that they have had fair cooperation so far, and that she hopes that they will continue and improve in the coming period.

 "I would suggest that at least once a month we have open days in the shelter, so that parents with children can come and get to know the dogs and maybe decide to adopt. In this way, we will influence children to have a different approach to animals. In the previous period, we found a home for many dogs through these actions", Milica Đikanović said.
