The best conceptual solutions selected at the international competition for arrangement of the riverfront of Morača

By selecting the best works, the international competition for the conceptual urban-architectural solution of the riverbed and banks of Morača was completed. The competition received 49 conceptual solutions from 18 countries. The jury consisted of: Branislav Redžić (president of the jury), Jason Long, Slobodan Radoman, Darko Novaković and Filip Aleksić, after reviewing the 48 works taken into consideration, concluded that none of the works reached the quality of the first prize, so it was not awarded.

Based on the best conceptual solutions, in the next period, the Capital will initiate the procedure of phased preparation of technical documentation necessary for the realization of the project, and respecting the assumed dynamics, it is expected that works on the construction of the first phase will begin in the current year.

The second prize was awarded to the author team from Spain, the USA and Turkey consisting of Carlos Zarco Sanz, Zuhal Kol, Zeynep Küheylan, Ozan Şen and Berna Yaylali. According to the jury, of all the works, this project best recognized the potentials of the location and identified the exceptional ecological potentials of the river through a set of possible interventions that are both subtle and imaginative. The work demonstrates a comprehensive, intellectual and practical analysis, followed by well-positioned and contemporary design interventions. The solution seeks to establish a dialogue between the city and Morača without tendency of imposing the character of each space on another one. In the words of the author: "Instead of an urbanized park on the river bank, the project concentrates on discovering non-invasive socio-ecological encounters when intervening in this extremely valuable natural environment."

The third prize went to the author team from Montenegro, which consists of Branko Rabrenović and Jasmina Salković. According to the jury, this work is a spontaneous intervention that treats the slopes of the Morača canyon as artifacts, thus proving a high level of understanding of the morphology of the site. In an extremely simple way, with one communication, it opens the possibility to recognize and experience the spirit of the river.

The purchase awarded the work of authors Suet Man Chan and Magdalena Szczypka from Netherlands, which stood out with its distinctive materialization and a large number of pavilion-type buildings that introduce new contents, which was especially appreciated by the jury.

Also, the purchase rewarded the work of the Montenegrin team consisting of Tanja Radovanović, Simona Popadić and Đorđe Radović, which offers a wide range of program and space opportunities.

In addition to the mentioned monetary awards, the jury decided to single out five works that, each in its own way, gave a significant contribution to the reflection on this great and important topic for Podgorica, which is being processed in this way for the first time.
