Vuković and Maddocks: Intensive cooperation between Podgorica and the cities of the United Kingdom

Mayor of Podgorica, Ivan Vuković, ph.D., talked with the British Ambassador to Montenegro, Karen Maddocks, during her first official visit to the Capital.

The interlocutors agreed that Montenegro and the countries of the United Kingdom have friendly and meaningful bilateral relations that need to be further developed and deepened in order to strengthen the partnership and the age-old friendship of their peoples and states.

Mayor Vuković introduced Ambassador Maddocks to the most important infrastructure projects that the city administration is currently implementing, but also to ambitious plans and investments in the coming period that aim to improve the quality of life of citizens and continue the dynamic development of Podgorica.

He emphasized that for that purpose, the most significant and valuable project refers to the construction of a wastewater treatment system, followed by the construction of new boulevards to move transit from the city center, environmental protection and sustainable development, as well as the application of modern solutions of the Smart City concept, emphasizing that in the coming period the city administration will be additionally committed to solving socio-economic problems in Podgorica.

Ambassador Maddocks assessed that all local governments and cities face the same or similar challenges and that in this regard it is necessary to intensify cooperation between Podgorica and the cities of the United Kingdom in order to exchange experiences and knowledge, as well as the application of best comparative practices to make local government systems even more efficient citizen services.

She emphasized that in that sense, the expert knowledge of experts from the United Kingdom could be very useful in terms of achieving a potential partnership in the implementation of some of the most important projects in Podgorica, emphasizing that in the coming period in that direction, communication should be intensified and priority areas for establishing cooperation of mutual interest should be concretized.

Among other things, the current functioning of the Capital and the Government of Montenegro regarding the implementation of joint projects was discussed at the meeting, as well as issues related to the functionality of state institutions and their further development in light of the current cohabitation process on the Montenegrin political scene
