REopen Doors project: Young Roma and Egyptians show high level of knowledge and skills during internship in the Capital

As part of the REopen Doors project, young Roma and Egyptians began internships in the organizational units of the Capital. The internship program will last until mid-April 2021, and began in December 2020.

Teodora Kusovac on behalf of the IPA team of the Capital pointed out that the goal of the project is to train a group of young Roma and Egyptians, to acquire skills and knowledge that will make them competitive on the labor market, and that in the first phase of the project the training of young Roma and Egyptians from Podgorica was realized.

"During the training, they acquired knowledge and mastered the skills that are required on the labor market and which will increase their chances of getting a job. In the second phase of the project, the twelve best participants are interns in the Capital, in various organizational units of local self-government in which they are distributed according to expressed affinities, so those who are interested in informatics are engaged in the city's Center for Information System, and law students in the services that deal with legal affairs", Kusovac stated and added that colleagues are satisfied with the knowledge, abilities and skills that young interns have shown."

Working together during the first part of the project, through training in the form of workshops, conducted under the program of the Educational Center "Montenesoft", a partner of the Capital in the project REopen Doors, led by educators trained to work with vulnerable social groups, they have greatly helped young Roma and Egyptians to overcome certain challenges more quickly during the implementation process of this project.

"The REopen doors project contributes to the integration of a marginalized social group precisely by introducing the participants, we get to know the problems that this group is facing and we try to overcome barriers and build trust together. Of course, there is also an evaluation of their work that shows us how much they have progressed and learned during the project itself. Working on the education of participants and interns of the REopen Doors project, we are also working on ourselves",  Kusovac concluded.

The total value of the project is €99,704.85, of which 90% (€89,734.37) is provided from the IPA II program SOPEES, and 10% (€9,970.48) is the participation of the Capital in the costs of project activities. IPA II EU-Montenegro Multiannual Action Program for Employment, Education and Social Policy (SOPEES) aims to build a developed and cohesive society by creating better conditions for raising the level of employability of the population, improving the quality of education, and social inclusion and reducing the risk of poverty.
