The second phase of Podgorica’s park completed: A new green oasis on over 10,000 square meters
24/08/2020Tonight, the Mayor of Podgorica, Ivan Vukovic, PhD, and his associates, opened the second phase of Podgorica’s park in Jovan Tomasevic Street, in the area between the Moskovski Bridge and the Gazela Pedestrian Bridge. It is a natural continuation of the first phase, which was recently completed and covers the area from the Milenijum Bridge to the Moskovski Bridge.
The value of the construction works of the second phase of the Podgorica’s park is € 49,642, while the total value of the construction of both phases is € 127,391. The park covers over 10,000 square meters, from the Milenijum Bridge to the Gazela Bridge.
Deputy Mayor Dr. Slađana Vujačić expressed satisfaction that Podgorica’s park, as one of the most beautiful park areas in the city, has received its final form.
"This is a space that in a short time has become a favorite place for rest and relaxation of our fellow citizens and our hearts are really fulfilled when every day and every night we see a large number of our citizens who use the facilities located here and this has become a favorite place for a stay in nature ", Vujačić emphasized.
She expressed special gratitude for the quality work done to colleagues from the company Zelenilo, but also to other partners in this project.
"I want to thank our colleagues from the company Zelenilo for the successfully done work, and the way in which this area is already used is proof that we have completed an excellent job together. This is also an opportunity to thank our friends from the Ministry of Defense for a significant donation that enabled us to form a new park area and the company Lakolina for the donation through which we reconstructed the lighting in Jovan Tomasevic Street," said the deputy mayor.
"Our message to the citizens is to use this space as much as possible, to enjoy it and to preserve it above all, and our promise is that by the end of this year we will get more of such park areas at several locations in the city," Vujačić concluded.
As part of the second phase of the Podgorica’s park, earthworks were carried out, the surface layer of infertile soil and rubble was removed and a new layer of humus soil was poured. The existing plant fund and paths have been retained, and a gate made of wooden beams has been made at the entrance from the Moskovski Bridge’s side. A colonnade with creepers was also built, and the area was enriched with autochthonous tree species (fig, mulberry, cherry plum ...). About 60 pieces of trees and about 100 meters of hedges were planted, while grasslands were formed on the free areas.
For a peaceful rest, two benches of modern design were made, and standard park furniture was installed - 12 benches and 6 waste baskets, and a protective-decorative fence was installed.
In order to reduce the consumption of water from the water supply network, a well was excavated on this surface, and the entire surface of the Podgorica’s park is irrigated with well water through the irrigation system.
