The Capital gives full support to the "Together for an accessible city" project
28/09/2020Deputy Mayor, Dr Slađana Vujačić, and her associates held an initial meeting with representatives of the Association for the Blind of Montenegro on the occasion of the project "Together for an accessible city." The project is planned to improve the accessibility of roads, public transport, parking and other services through a series of activities and programs, so that people with disabilities can perform their daily duties without hindrance, while moving safely.
On that occasion, Deputy Mayor, Dr Slađana Vujačić, pointed out that the city administration is ready to support the project "Together for a more accessible city" and that in the coming period it will initiate activities aimed at adapting the capital to the needs of people with disabilities.
Representatives of the Association of the Blind of Montenegro have launched an initiative to establish an advisory body for accessibility at the local level, which will be supported by the Capital. The advisory body will primarily work on a systematic and planned solution to the issue of accessibility and safety of a public transport for persons with disabilities.
We remind you that in the Capital budget for 2020, EUR 60,000 have been allocated for the construction of tactile paths for blind and visually impaired, which will cover the narrower part of the center of Podgorica for the first time. In the past few years, almost 500 approaches and crossings have been arranged or adjusted in the city, through the work of the NGO, Commission for Allocation of Funds, a quarter of the total funds was allocated for projects dealing with the issues of persons with disabilities. The teams of the Housing Agency of the Capital have installed an outdoor gym for people with disabilities in “Tološka šuma”. In addition to the device itself, an access path adapted to persons with disabilities has been arranged. In the next period, it is planned to continue installing sound traffic lights.
The Capital and the Secretariat for Social Welfare will continue to work on the improvement and expansion of social services, will try to allocate even more funds for persons with disabilities through the budget and will continue to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities through joint projects.
