The sixth international book fair opened in Podgorica
30/09/2020The sixth International book fair was opened in Bemax Arena in Podgorica last tonight, where over fifty publishers from Montenegro and the region will present themselves.
The Secretary for Culture and Sports of the Capital, Ana Medigović, greeted all those present at the opening of the fair and expressed great satisfaction that, despite the conditions we are at right now, this year's edition of the fair was not absent.
She pointed out that the origin and development of this event cannot be understood without knowing the socio-cultural, historical and political context of the moment in which it was created. "I want to emphasize the contribution of the fair to the presentation of contemporary Montenegrin creativity, which for the sixth year in a row brings together and presents Montenegrin publishers and writers, regional and foreign publishers and authors, contributing to the affirmation of Montenegrin and European literature. The issue of education, culture and cultural exchange is organically connected with the general development of society. Aware of the importance of cultural and historical cooperation, at the fair we will have the opportunity to learn about diplomatic relations between Montenegro and Romania, meet the younger generation of writers, and a special segment will be the promotion of young generations of Montenegrin authors. Talks will also be held with prominent names in the field of literature, history and culture", Medigović emphasized.
Dragica Milić, director of the Directorate for Cultural Creativity in the Ministry of Culture, pointed out that cultural events and festivals in Montenegro represent an important and popular type of promotion and presentation of creativity, and are also an important incentive and model for the development and affirmation of culture.
"One of the many cultural events in Montenegro is the International book fair, which from year to year diligently and dedicatedly achieves its mission - the affirmation of literary creativity and the meaning of the written word, also testifying to the strong contribution of this area to establishing and developing dialogue and understanding, acceptance and respect for diversity, as the foundation on which the values of every modern society rest", emphasized Milić, adding that this year's fair edition, although in specific circumstances and with a reduced program, still brings a number of interesting, valuable and quality content and successfully continues to implement a unique mission of the written word.
"In that context, in the next four days, we will have the opportunity to get acquainted with current events on the Montenegrin literary scene and our numerous authors. The diversity of content that the program brings us is a confirmation of the importance of the written word in this area, which records centuries of continuity, but also the vitality and inexhaustibility of our literary scene", concluded Milić.
Convinced that this year's fair ceremony will initiate new inspirations, in these challenging times, she wished the organizers and participants successful fair days, and visitors to enjoy the ambience and meetings with the creators and their works.
