The Capital is sponsor of the new sports event Podgorica Millenium Run
16/10/2020Podgorica will host a new sports event called Podgorica Millennium Run from November 20 to Novembar 22. The event, which is sponsored by the Capital and the Secretariat for Culture and Sports, will be organized in cooperation with the Multisport Academy Meyer. During this event, Podgorica will completely be marked by sports, running, socializing and healthy lifestyles.
All trails are designed to pass through the most interesting parts of the city, and the competitors will run through the city center, through Masline, Zlatica, Zagorič, part of the city across Morača river, but also through Stara Varoš.
"As the name suggests, the central place of all events is the Millennium Bridge, the symbol of the city. This is where the start and end of manifestation are. Branding of the start and finish zones, zones for competitors, audience, VIP guests, but also journalists will be organized on and around the bridge so that everyone can experience this event in the right way ", Igor Majer points out, director of Podgorica Millennium Run. He emphasized that the place of registration of competitors, mini fair, opening ceremony of the event will be in the Hilton hotel on Friday, November 20. A big children's humanitarian race is planned for Saturday, which is organized in cooperation with the Be Human Foundation (Budi human), and on November 22, a race of firefighters from all Montenegrin cities, as well as races at 5, 10, 21 and 42 kilometers.
So far, more than 200 competitors have registered, and the arrival of more than 500 competitors from the region has been announced, who due to the current situation caused by the coronavirus are not in a position to plan the trip with certainty. It is interesting that for the first time in Montenegro, at such an event, we apply the most modern electronic registration system based on the world's largest marathons.
What the organizers cannot influence is the complex epidemiological situation in Montenegro and the region, where recreationalists who are recognized as the target group of this event come from.
"We are aware of the fact that most of the mass sports events this year in the world and the region have been postponed to 2021. When we started preparing the event, November 22 seemed far enough for the situation with the coronavirus to stabilize, but we have also planned and set the date of October 22 as the deadline for deciding whether to organize the event or postpone it for next year. In this regard, in cooperation with the Capital, we were open to both competitors and sponsors. The current situation in Montenegro is complicated and the decision that will be made will be made exclusively taking into account the interest of the health of citizens and athletes. If we cannot provide a safe training ground for competitors, volunteers and organizers, the event will be postponed to November 21, 2021", organizers of the event explain.
Additional information about the race, as well as track maps can be found on the website www.podgorica.run and on all social networks of Podgorica Millennium Run.
