The Capital awarded the top ten business ideas that will revival Stara Varoš

Today, the Mayor of Podgorica, Ivan Vuković, PhD, signed contracts with entrepreneurs whose business ideas were rated the best in the competition for the development of entrepreneurship in Stara Varoš and expressed great satisfaction with the fact that these entrepreneurs will implement new initiatives and development projects in this part of the city.

"The capital has allocated EUR 50,000 and as a result we will soon have new souvenir shops, galleries and various facilities in this area that will surely complete the picture of this historic core of the Capital. We are very committed to improving the overall situation in Stara Varoš, appreciating what is the cultural-historical, identity significance of this part of the city for Podgorica as a whole. With this aim, in the past two years we have realized a number of investments, including a thorough reconstruction of the birth house of Risto Stijović and Braće Zlatičanina Street. At the moment, the reconstruction of Keše Đurovića Street, Predgrad and a part of Gojka Radonjića Street is in the final phase", Vuković pointed out.

The Mayor reminded that the idea of the Capital is to restore the authentic look, cobblestones and everything that will beautify and bring back to life this historic city center through these and similar projects.

"We are also aware that this in itself does not guarantee the success of our initiative. Success will come only if life returns to Stara Varoš to a much greater extent. I think this is the best way to offer people financial support to start their own businesses and to hope that in the coming period we will have new creative points in different parts of Stara Varoš, places of creative energy, where people will gather and thus succeed in that way really revive this somewhat dormant pearl of Podgorica", the Mayor emphasized, adding that much larger projects are expected in this part of the city.

"If the financial possibilities allow, and it is very ungrateful to assume such things in times of crisis caused by coronavirus, maybe next year we would enter the realization of a capital infrastructure project, and that is the construction of a pedestrian bridge that would connect Stara Varoš with the plateau in the immediate vicinity of Hotel Podgorica and Sports Center. In that way, they would additionally motivate people to pass through Stara Varoš, to stay there and, I am sure in a few years, to make Podgorica even more proud of Stara Varoš", Vuković concluded.

The representative of the winners of the support for the development of entrepreneurship in Stara Varoš, Zdravko Klikovac, on behalf of all the winners of the subsidy, thanked the mayor Dr Ivan Vuković and the Capital for an extremely good and useful initiative, adding that they are especially pleased with the mayor's words for the development and revival of Stara Varoš.

"As for us who live here, we could hardly wait and finally welcomed the revitalization of Stara Varoš, which includes this beautiful house of Risto Stijović, which was recently reconstructed, then Braće Zlatičana Street, as well as the streets whose reconstruction is underway, i.e. Predgrad and Keše Đurovića", Klikovac emphasized. He said that the people of Stara Varoš have been waiting and dreaming for a long time, and that he believes that the awarded entrepreneurs will justify the trust shown to them by the Capital. "I hope that this is a nice start and that in the near future Stara Varoš as a cult part of the city will be even more interesting and attractive and will attract and retain many more tourists and visitors than before", Klikovac concluded.
